Bordeaux city areas
Bordeaux is a historical city with many tourist attractions. The main interest areas are briefly presented here, as well as the 12 quarters (quartiers) the city is divided into.
Interest areas
- Old city – historic centre
Features: This part located within the ancient walls of the town corresponds today to Place Gambetta, Place de la Victoire, Musee des Beaux Arts and Place de la Comedie with its Grand Theatre, to name a few.
The pedestrian street St. Catherine is home to the old buildings of the University as well as a thriving shopping area.
- Older suburbs
Features: The Grand-Parc and Chartrons neighborhoods along the Garonne are represented by wine traders.
Saint-Seurin located in the northwest is built around the Gallien palace and has many consulates.
Mériadeck is a modern neighborhood, mainly commercial and administrative. This is where the prefecture of the Aquitaine region is, as well as the general council of Gironde and some services of the Treasury.
- Outer neighborhoods
Features: The right bank includes Bastide and Benauge and is mostly reserved to industries, whereas the left bank consists of Bordeaux-Lac and Bacalan with their Pont d’Aquitaine and Parc des Expositions.
Caudéran in the west has the largest green space in the city, Le Parc Bordelais.

- Saint Augustin – Quintin – Loucheur – Tondu – they share the Centre Universitaire Hospitalier and the Chaban Delmas stadium
- Saint Bruno – Saint Victor – Mériadeck – modern urban comfort
- Nansouty – Saint Genès – Simiot – Barrière de Toulouse – student area
- Saint Jean – Belcier – Carle Vernet – Albert 1er – Sacré Coeur
